Expressing Sorrow atau ungkapan sedih merupakan salah satu materi pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di SMA/SMK. Ungakapan sedih berfungsi menyatakan kesedihan paada orang lain.

Tidak setiap hari berjalan dengan baik. Bagaimana sebaiknya mengekspresikan diri saat kamu merasa sedih? Sama seperti rasa senang, maka rasa sedih juga mempunyai banyak alasan dan tingkatan berbeda.


Contoh ungkapan Expressing Sorrow,  antara lain:
My heart is so burned
I can't tell my pain and sorrow in word
it brought me a lot of misery
I'm so sad to hear that
I regret having to do this
I'm feeling bad at this time

Charlotte: I’m really worried about her.

Ben: I’m so sorry. I hope she feels better soon.

Narration: In English, we say “I’m sorry to hear that,” when we hear bad news.

Ben: Why the long face? You don’t look too good today.

Charlotte: I’m feeling upset about Mr. Baker’s leaving.

Ben: I feel you. He’s one of my favorite teachers. I was sorry to hear the news.

Charlotte: I know. I’ll miss him.

Ben: Me too.

 

Beberapa frase dan ungkapan untuk mengungkapkan rasa sedih:

1. “I’m upset. ” “Aku kesal” (Artinya kamu merasa marah atau tak senang dan kecewa)

2. “I feel terrible.” “Aku merasa kurang sehat” (Frase ini bisa digunakan saat kamu sakit atau capek)

3. “I feel let down” “Aku merasa dikecewakan” (Artinya kamu merasa kecewa)

4. “I’m worried.” “Aku khawatir” (Artinya kamu merasa cemas atau gelisah akan suatu hal)

5. “I’m cross with….” “Aku jengkel dengan …” (Kamu bisa menggunakan frase ini saat merasa marah akan suatu hal)

6. “I’m feeling under the weather” “Aku merasa tak enak badan” (Artinya kamu merasa sakit)

Saat seseorang berkata bahwa mereka sedang merasa sedih, maka penting halnya untuk menunjukkan rasa pedulimu. Berikut ini adalah beberapa frase umum untuk menunjukkan bahwa kamu peduli.

 

Informal:

Bummer. Damn

I feel you. I understand your feeling.

What went wrong? What is wrong?

I can't believe that. That's horrible / disgusting / not fair. Gosh! It was really terrible / disgusting / unfair.

 

Formal:

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sorry about that.

That's too bad. Too bad.
